Obituary of Gladys Humphrey
Gladys Lee Barefield Humphrey, age 90, of Rolesville, NC passed away peacefully Saturday, October 26, 2013 at 9:10 P.M. at Hospice of Wake County, Raleigh, NC.
Gladys was born in Norfolk, VA on October 16, 1923 to the late Anna (Pearsall) and Homer Barefield. She grew up in Linden, NJ and graduated from Linden High School.
Gladys worked as an office manager for the Lanier Company in Miami Florida for 25 years and drove a school bus for ten years. She enjoyed her home on the lake, taking care of her pets, her flowers, traveling and shopping. Her beautiful smile would always light up the room. She was naturally a happy person and dedicated to her family and friends. She was, also, actively involved in her church, New Testament Baptist Church.
Gladys is survived by two daughters, Faye Redmond (Jim Redmond) of Lima, Ohio, and Andrea Hopkins, of West Palm Beach, Florida; a sister, Betty Blanton of Rocky Mount, NC; four grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, seven nieces and two nephews, and other family and friends.
Gladys is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles J. Humphrey, to whom she was married for 43 years, her mother and father, Anna M. and Homer C Barefield, and two brothers, Clifton and Melvin Barefield.
A private memorial service will be held at a time yet to be determined.
