On Tuesday, September 21st, our Mom passed away peacefully at home. She was 97 years old.
Mom fell at home on September 2nd and broke her hip, which was inoperable. She was at Rex Hospital until September 10th, at which time we made the decision to bring her home rather than send her to a nursing home. It was very important to us to have her in a familiar environment, where she would feel safe and receive care from those who loved her. The support and guidance of Hospice was invaluable.
Since Mom was unable to receive visitors and because of COVID, we made the decision to put all our time and effort toward making her as comfortable as possible.
A private graveside service was held by the immediate family at Montlawn Cemetery, where she was buried beside her husband and the Father of her children, Vernon Stephen Lanier.
Mom was a wonderful Mother, Daughter, Sister, Wife and Friend and we know that each of you cherished her as she did each of you.
She will be greatly missed.
