Obituary of Hanna Odom

Hanna Tappe Odom was called home to be with the Lord on October 17, 2010. She passed away with her husband of over 50 years, James Nelson Odom, by her bedside in their North Raleigh home. Hanna was born in Bremerhaven, Germany on November 27, 1936, immigrated to America while still a teenager, and became a United States citizen in 1963. She was a devout evangelical Christian, a proud and patriotic American, and a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Besides her husband, she is survived by their daughter, Sue Ann Odom Creech, and husband David, their son, James Luther Odom, their grandchildren, Drew, Liam, and Anna Creech, all of the Raleigh area, her sister, Helga Tappe Martin, and husband Dale, of Salisbury, Maryland, her brother, Adolf Tappe, and wife Irmengard, of Langen near Bremerhaven, Germany and her best friend, Betty Aurand Maul, of Atlas, Michigan. Preceding her in death were her parents, Adolf and Hanna Branstner Tappe, and daughter-in-law, Sharon Odom. The family is grateful to Christina Brundage for the many wonderful hours she spent with Hanna, to Shelley Perry, Chris Kleinert, Karen Westbrook, and all of the dedicated care givers of Liberty Hospice, and especially to Kina Toon, who gave loving care to Hanna for more than a year. Graveside services conducted by Reverend Mike Garrett of Crossroads Fellowship will be held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, October 20, 2010, at Montlawn Memorial Park, 2911 S. Wilmington St., Raleigh, North Carolina, where she will be laid to rest.
