Obituary of Henry Hockaday
Henry Clay Hockaday, 82, retired CPA, died Saturday, November 9, 2013 at William Dunlap Hospice Center. He was born in Granville County on March 24, 1931 to Arnie Hunt Hockaday and Sidney Maynard Hockaday.
Henry graduated from Wilton High School in 1950 and then joined the US Navy. Afterwards, he worked at Burlington Mills and Cameron Village, Inc. He graduated from Campbell College in 1964 and worked with Lynch and Howard Accounting Firm. Getting his CPA Certificate he later started his own business
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Sylvia; son, Stephen and wife Deborah of Allen, TX; grandsons, Bradley and Gregory also of Allen, TX; sister, Edith Ramey of Franklinton; brother, Sidney Hockaday and wife Virginia of Morrisville; nephew, Kevin Hockaday of Raleigh; niece, Diane Lingenfelter of Chantilly, VA; nephew, Joseph Peed of Charlotte. Also surviving are several great nieces, a great nephew and two great-great nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Ruth Peed of Creedmoor and nephew, Daniel Hockaday of Raleigh.
Henry was a member of Saint Andrews United Methodist Church, joining in 1965. He served as an usher for more than 20 years. He was a good father and was happiest when playing golf with Stephen at Star Hills at Morehead City, NC.
Funeral services will be held 11 am Saturday, November 16, 2013 at Saint Andrews United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at Montlawn Funeral Home from 6-8 pm Friday, November 15, 2013.
