Obituary

Hilda Winstead Gothson, 88, passed away in Raleigh on April 15, 2016. She was born in Zebulon, NC, the youngest and the last surviving child of 13 children born to William Herbert & Addie Ellis Dew Winstead. She is survived by her husband, Robert A. Gothson of Raleigh; son, William Crawford "Ford" Coley III (Vickie) of Kinston, NC; as well as many nieces, nephews, special great-nephews, Herbert Joel "Joey" Pippin, Jr. of Wake Forest, NC & Fredrick Wayne "Rick" White of Raleigh, and extended family and friends.
Hilda graduated from Wakelon High School in Zebulon as Salutatorian, and attended King's Business College in Raleigh. She lived in Kinston for many years where she was a charter member of Spilman Memorial Baptist Church and member of the adult choir. She worked for the Caswell Center and the Episcopal Diocese of East Carolina and retired from the City of Kinston. After retirement, she moved to Raleigh where she became a member of Hayes Barton Baptist Church and was also active in their adult choir until her health failed her.
Services celebrating Hilda's life will begin with a visitation on Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at 1:00 pm at Montlawn Funeral Home followed by a graveside service at 2:00 pm at Montlawn Memorial Park, 2911 S. Wilmington St, Raleigh.
The family would like to give special thanks to the caregivers at Universal Healthcare of North Raleigh and Transitions Hospice of Wake County.
It is with thankful hearts that we celebrate the blessing of Hilda's life. With God's grace, we will honor her legacy as we continue striving to live meaningful lives.
