IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Hilda Messer
Tyndall
January 5, 1934 – January 24, 2023
Hilda Messer Tyndall passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 24, 2023, at the home she made with her husband of 66 years, James Earl Tyndall of Raleigh, NC. She is survived by her daughter, Sherry Tyndall (Kevin Shanahan) of Raleigh; sister Louise Rossman (Tom Osbourne) of Raleigh; brother Billy Messer of Coats, NC; 3 grandchildren, 6 great- grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and friends. Hilda was born on January 5, 1934, to Dallas Austin Messer and Lessie Tyson Messer, both of Coats, NC. She graduated from Coats High School and belonged to a gospel quartet who recorded a record in Raleigh—Hilda loved God and gospel music. Hilda retired from the N.C. Department of Administration, but in the early years she worked at McCrory's 5-10-25¢ Store in Dunn, NC where she met the love of her life; they married on January 1, 1957. Over the years James and Hilda lived in Delaware and Pennsylvania before returning to North Carolina, where they lived in Hamlet and Raleigh. She was an extraordinary wife, mother, cook and homemaker whose legacy is to live and love every day beyond measure with all that you say and do. Hilda would do anything she could for you and her laughter was contagious! Hilda is preceded in death by her parents and siblings: Winfred and Buddy Messer (Coats, NC); Goldie Powell (Fuquay, NC); and Lois Harris (Myrtle Beach, SC). The family is thankful for the love and support of family, friends, and the Promedica Hospice staff. Hilda's funeral service will be Thursday, February 2, 2023, at Montlawn Memorial Park: visitation at noon with service to follow at 1:00pm.
