Obituary of Hollis Umphrey

Hollis Umphrey, 84, died Saturday, November 14, 2009 at Grace Health Care in Durham.

Family will receive friends at 11:00am, Friday, November 20, 2009 at Montlawn Funeral Home. Services will follow at 12:00 noon in Montlawn Funeral Home Chapel.

Mr. Umphrey retired from Shamrock Golf Course in Raleigh as a grounds maintenance worker with over 25 years of service. He was a lifelong member of Providence Holly Church in Raleigh. Hollis was a devoted, loving father to his five children and a dear friend to his love Mary Inez Umphry after their 16 years of marriage ended in 1975.

Hollis Umphrey is survived by Mary Inez Umphrey; sons, Edward, Donald, and Hollis; and daughter, Joyce. He is preceded in death by his son Maurice, his parents, 1 brother, and 4 sisters
