Howard M. Walters, Jr., 80 of Garner passed away Saturday evening, February 14, 2015 at Rex Hospital.

Born April 6, 1934 in Charleston, SC, he was the son of the late Howard M. Sr., and Jennie Walters. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Wesley H. Walters, and sister, Nancy Walters Choquette.

Howard is survived by his loving wife of 59 wonderful years, Jimmie Lee Walters; son, Howard M. Walters, III and wife Karen; grandchildren, Rebecca W. Powers and husband Timothy, Amy W. Taylor and husband Josh, Howard M. Walters, IV; sisters, Naomi Fishel, Carolyn Hawkins and husband Ed; and many nieces and nephews.

Howard had a successful career which he enjoyed as a merchant with the Belk Company for 39 ½ years. After his retirement, he enjoyed traveling with his wife to many foreign countries as well as many states. Howard was an avid hunter and shared countless memories with his sons and friends throughout his life. Many of his friends will think of him with fond memories as a fine honorable man.

A Funeral Service will be held 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 19, 2015 at Trinity Baptist Church, 4815 Six Forks Road, Raleigh, NC 27609. The family will receive friends immediately after the service in the church vestibule. Burial will follow the visitation at Montlawn Memorial Park, 2911 S. Wilmington Street, Raleigh, NC 27603.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Howard to the Alzheimer's Association, the American Heart Association, or the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission.
