On Friday, August 2, 2019, Huey P. Weaver, devoted husband and father of five
children, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family. He was 87 years old and
had just celebrated his 47 th wedding anniversary with his best friend and wife,
Dorothy Aydlett Weaver.

Huey was born on January 22, 1932 in Bentonville, NC to John and Beulah (Flowers)
Weaver. He grew up on a tobacco farm with his seven brothers and sisters, and they
all worked hard on the farm in addition to going to school. Near the end of Huey's
life, his brother Jim got a big smile out of him by saying, "Huey, wake up! We need to
take out a barn of tobacco."

Huey graduated from NC State University in 1954, then served as a military
counterintelligence officer in the US Army. As a man of true integrity, he never
revealed a single detail of his army service, no matter how much his children
pestered him. Huey then spent nearly 40 years working at State Farm Insurance and
retired in 1996. He was known for his negotiation skills, with his secret weapon being
his comfort with silence.

Huey was an avid gardener, and at one time he grew twenty different varieties of
hybrid tea roses in his backyard. He took great pride in his lawn, which was always
lush, green, and ready for his children to play. Huey's attention to detail and aim for
perfection were evident in everything he did, as he would often say, "If something is
worth doing, it's worth doing right."

Family was the most important thing in Huey's life. He loved children so much, in
fact, that he fervently wished for twins each time that Dorothy became pregnant (to
Dorothy's relief, that particular wish was not granted). Being a part of Huey's family
meant knowing in every cell of your being that you were loved, deeply and
completely. In his last few weeks of life, when words were scarce, Huey spent what
energy he had saying "I love you" to all of the dear ones surrounding him.

Huey was preceded in death by his siblings Norma Weaver Lee, Lillie Pearl Weaver
Pate, John Weaver, Lila Weaver Rose, and Mary Weaver Price. He is survived by his
wife Dorothy, his children Doug Weaver (Tammy) of Roxboro, Suzanne Weaver
Barwick (Lawrence) of Mount Olive, Michael Weaver of Garner, Kathryn Weaver
Wick (Cara) of Winston-Salem, and Steven Weaver (Kate) of Greensboro. He is also
survived by his brother Marvin "Jim" Weaver (Peggy) of Raleigh, his sister Judy
Weaver Britt (Milton) of Raleigh, his first wife Dolores Best Weaver of Dobbersville,
eight grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held Thursday, August 8, 2019 at 2:00 pm at Montlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be
made to Transitions HospiceCare.
