Inez Montague went to be with the Lord June 30, 2020.
Born Sept. 1, 1926 in Zebulon, N.C. to Earlie Knott Hood and Henry Hood. She married Bert M. Montague Sept. 14, 1946 in Petersburg, Virginia. She was a graduate of Broughton High School and Peace College.
Her love for the Lord and her desire to bring others to know Christ were a driving force throughout her life. Inez and Bert were charter members of Temple Baptist Church in Raleigh, NC where she taught Sunday School. At Calvary Baptist she was a G.A. leader, member of the Women's Missionary Union, and involved in various other organizations. She was active in Christian Women's Club for many years and was often a speaker. She was a den mother to Cub Scouts. She had a heart for children and was often asked to babysit while she and Bert lived in Richmond, VA, in the 1980s.
After living in Virginia for 12 years, Bert and Inez moved back to North Carolina and lived in Seven Lakes in Moore County, where they were active in Seven Lakes Baptist Church. They returned to Raleigh in 2010 and lived in Abbotswood at Stonehenge.
Inez was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Magruda Carlyle, Priscilla Jones, and Esther Hinton, and a brother Harvey Hood. She is survived by her four children Mack Montague (Marilyn) of Buford, GA, Terry Smith, Anne Radford (Greg), and Glenn Montague (Trish), all of Raleigh. Grandchildren Miles Montague of Canton, GA, Wells Montague of Alpharetta, GA, Kenneth Smith (Melanie) of Fuquay-Varina, NC, Will Smith (Christine) of Winston-Salem, NC, Steve Radford of Holly Springs, NC, and Sam Radford of Raleigh. Great-grandchildren Conner, Nathan, Emma, Isabella and Carter Smith, Aiden, Mason and Lilah Davis.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 7, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at Montlawn Funeral Home and Cremations, 2911 South Wilmington Street. The family will receive friends at 12:00 p.m. - one hour before the service.
