Obituary

Iris Shipp Stoutt, affectionately known as Doodle, passed away on January 5, 2025, in Cary, North Carolina. Born on September 6, 1948, in Durham, North Carolina, she was a vibrant soul cherished by all who knew her.

Doodle had an amazing career, serving as the President of Meg Construction Company, where she led with dedication and charisma. Her educational pursuits culminated in an associate degree from Louisburg College in North Carolina, which laid the groundwork for her successful professional journey.

She was a member of the Richland Creek Church in Wake Forest, where she engaged actively in the community and found spiritual solace. She accomplished a seven year program, known as the Bible Study Fellowship Program, which she was profoundly proud of.

Doodle's personality was a beacon of joy. Known for her humor and sense of style, she enjoyed dining out, traveling, and partaking in life's adventures with her beloved husband, John Russell Stoutt Jr., until his passing. Together, they traveled from Hawaii to Costa Rica, partaking in humanitarian efforts and embracing every moment. Her love for animals was profound, always accompanied by a dog and reminiscing about her days of horseback riding with her horse Red Man. Doodle also relished spending as much time as possible with her sister Alice and husband Dwane.   They were found at The Pub weekly, trips to the beach and mountains, and could be found at each other's houses when they weren't on the go.   She absolutely loved spending time with all her family and friends.

Her family was her pride and joy. She is survived by her older sister, Alice Shipp Byrd (Jessie Dwane Byrd); niece, Dawn Andrews (Johnny Andrews); nephew, Jessie Dwane Byrd Jr.; stepchildren, Debora Stoutt Jordan (Kenneth Jordan), John Russell Stoutt II (Tracy Stoutt), Beth and Lee Thomason;

Grandchildren/Great Nieces/Nephews/Great Grandchildren:  Madison, Julian and Luca Gerace, Lindsay Creel, Jessie Byrd, Candice Leigh Melcher, Crystal, Blake and Aydin Roycroft, Laura, Hazel Ruth and Jordan Griffith,  Brett Andrews, Thomas Andrews, Robert Lee Barton II, John Russell Stoutt IV and V;

Her parents, Jessie Turner Shipp and Reuben Thomas Shipp, and her cherished husband, John Russell Stoutt Jr., preceded her in death.
