Dr. James Eugene Glenn passed away May 11, 2022 in Raleigh, NC.
Dr. Glenn was born in Raleigh, NC, to Nora Graham Glenn and George Eugene Glenn on Oct. 18, 1929. He was educated in Raleigh Public Schools and was a graduate of Hugh Morson High School, UNC-CH, and UNC-CH School of Medicine. Dr. Glenn served in the United States Navy, which brought him to Jacksonville, Florida. There he practiced medicine for nearly 60 years before fully retiring at the age 85 and returning to Raleigh.
Ruth Marie Hyde became his wife in 1951. She predeceased Dr. Glenn in death. Together they shared three children: Sharon Marie Glenn, Jeffrey Thompson Glenn, and Michael Eugene Glenn, all of whom survived to mourn the loss of their beloved parents.
Although Dr. Glenn achieved many honors in his career, he will be remembered best for his generosity to his friends, family, and the UNC-CH School of Medicine, where he and his wife established three academic scholarships.
Dr. Glenn was predeceased by his parents ,wife ,his brother William Arthur Glenn, and his grandson Paul Andrew Glenn. He is survived by his three children; three grandsons: Christopher Anderson Brook, Matthew Graham Brook, and John Cameron Glenn; three great-grandchildren: Sophia Ruth Brook, Elias Demetrios Brook, and Isabelle Eugenia Brook; brother Carroll Glenn( Nancy) and sister Ann Glenn Johnson(Rudy); and nieces and nephew: Cynthia, Steve, Mark and Lisa and their children, Lori, Jay, Beth, and John and their children, Artie, Mindy, Virginia, and Patty and their children, Summer and Emilio. Also surviving are his beloved granddaughter-in-law Lydia lliopoulos Brook, Moira Downey, Connie Flesner, Angelica Gonzalez, Augustin, and Ronnie, and Anthony Caristo. Special thanks to the staff at The Cardinal at North Hills, his nurses Kimberly, Michelle, Alex, Mary, and Thandi, his many loving friends including Carroll, Jack, Phyllis, Mike, Cliff, and Linda, and his favorite PA Leanne for their compassionate care and friendship.
Service will be held at the Montlawn Mausoleum on Sunday May 22, 2022 at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Safe Haven for Cats, 8431 Garvey Dr. #137, Raleigh, NC, 27616
