Wake Forest, NC - James Theodore Hoy Jr, 82, went to his heavenly home on Tuesday, Feb. 2nd, 2021.
James "Jimmy" was born in Raleigh, North Carolina on April 27th, 1938. He graduated from Broughton High School with the Class of 1957. In Jimmy's early career, he worked in the florist industry Fallon's Florists. Some of his most notable arrangements were at the annual Debutante Ball of Raleigh. In 1976, Jimmy opened Hoy Auction. Thousands of Auctions later, the business is still going strong; now being run by his son, Jay Hoy and grandson, Little Jimmy.
He was a dedicated "Pop" and loved to watch all of his grandchildren in all of their activities. He was a hard worker his whole life, and that work ethic has been passed down through the Hoy Family. Those who knew Jimmy, know that the Auction House, the countless customers over the years, and his family were most important to him.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his father, James Theodore Hoy Sr.; his mother Essie Gargis Hoy; and his sisters Betsy Mooneyham, and Joyce Jones (George).
Jimmy is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary Lou Hoy; his sons Jay (Melodie) and Jonathan (Angela); his grandchildren, Malorie (Gray), Jimmy (Claire), Hallie (Nelson), Heather, and Hunter; his great-grandchild Timothy James Ingold;his brother in law, Bobby Mooneyham; his nieces and nephews Julie (Craig), Scott (Lisa), Lundie (Shawn), Johnny, Tony, Jeff (Beth) and Clint; his great nieces and nephews; Nick, Kelly, Erin, Jeffrey, Connor, Lauren, Lindsay, McKenzie and Connor; as well as several great nieces and nephews, special family friends, Ann Medlin and Anna Summerlin.
Private services will be held at Montlawn Cemetery in Raleigh. There will be a live stream available through the Montlawn Cemetery website. Please visit

The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the Wake Forest Fire and Rescue and his many loyal customers over the years, and all of their support.
