James "Jim" Edward Martin, 83, passed away on Sunday, February 28, 2021. He was born to the late Cecil O. and Lillie Bryant Martin on May 27, 1937 in Lenoir, NC. He married the love of his life, Shelby Cheek Martin on June 2, 1956. They then moved to Washington D.C. where they were both employed by the FBI. They later moved to Charlotte, NC where he began his career with NCR Corp. His career with NCR took him to Charlottesville, VA, then Columbus, GA, where their daughter Vicki was born, and to Raleigh, NC where he retired after 35 years of service. He then was a volunteer at Rex Hospital for 12 years. He was a long time member of Forest Hills Baptist Church in Raleigh, and also honorably served in the NC Army National Guard and US Army Reserves 1954-1963.

He is preceded in death by an infant brother, his parents, and his loving wife of 62 years, Shelby. He is survived by his adoring daughter Vicki M. Carter and her husband John, grandchildren John, James and Callie Carter, all of Raleigh, sister Betty Arnette and husband Bob of Lenoir, NC and 2 nieces.
