James Ray Spake, 59, of Raleigh, NC, went to be with the Lord on September 22, 2021.

James was born April 9, 1962 in Gastonia to Harold Spake and Peggy Lara.  He grew up along the beaches of Wilmington with his mother and Gus Lara, alongside sisters Karen Gardner, Teresa Savage and Deborah Godbey.

He married Annette Dew and they started a family, complete with 4 wonderful children whom he adored: Joshua (Ginger), Kristy (Dustin), Kara (Jason) and Mackenzie (John).  He enjoyed every minute he could spend with any of his 7 grandchildren: Ryan, Rachel, Harmony, Elijah, Julia, Adalyn and Miles.

He remarried to Mildred Callender and was truly enjoying every moment of their life together.  He treasured her, and appreciated time spent with daughter LaToya, grandchildren Lashair and Mekhi, and the rest of her family.

James dedicated his life to the Lord at a young age. and had a steadfast faith.  He proudly served on the security team for C3 Church.

He enjoyed all things related to the ocean, esp. surfing, boating and kiting.

James loved passionately.  If he was interested in someone or something, he pursued it 110%.  Along with his family, that is his legacy.

The funeral service for Mr. Spake will be held at 12:00 noon on Friday, October 1, 2021 under the Portico (outside service) at Montlawn Funeral Home and Cremations - 2911 South Wilmington Street, Raleigh, NC 27603.The family will receive friends one hour before the service at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park.
