James "Jimmy" Richard Spivey of Raleigh, NC, 77 passed away at his home on Monday, May 22, 2023.
Jimmy was born August 9, 1945, in Dunn, NC to parents, James Kenneth and Evelyn Warren Spivey. After graduating from Garner High School, he proudly served in the Army and two tours in Vietnam. Jimmy then served North Carolina and his community with the State Capitol Police, the General Assembly Police, and finally as a contractor for the United States Marshals.
He is predeceased by wife Linda Spivey, father James Kenneth Spivey, mother Evelyn Spivey, siblings Gene Spivey and Scarlett Eason, daughters Terri James and Lisa Smith, brother-in-law Tim Pearce, and granddaughter Melissa Hartness. He is survived by sister Lisa Pearce, children Andy Spivey and wife Jackie, Sharon Edwards and husband Jack, Angela Cashwell and husband Robby Stewart, and grandchildren Samantha Spivey, Kyle Smith, Damon Cashwell, and Raelee Cashwell and Great Grandchildren Xavier Hartness and Deegan Cashwell.
Jimmy was a lifelong resident of Raleigh and was an avid outdoorsman that loved hunting, fishing, and gardening, and was an excellent cook. He was famous for his deer jerky and sausage gravy. He was a selfless servant for the state and was well-respected by his coworkers for his hard work, compassion, and simple farm-boy wit. He was a genuine American patriot who served his nation honorably.
The graveside service, officiated by Dr. Ryan Jackson of Capital Church, will be on May 30, 2023, 2:00 pm at Montlawn Memorial Park Funeral Home, open to family and friends. Following the service, the family will receive friends at the family home. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Wounded Warrior Project.
