James Thompson, 77, of Garner, died Wednesday Jan. 1, 2020 after a long battle with complications from lung surgery. He was born in Wilson NC and served in the Army 1961-1964. He graduated from UNC in 1967. James worked for Gulf Oil Corporation for 14 years and was a tax accountant for 35 years. He is survived by his wife, Marie Sharpe Thompson and his sister, Patricia Ann Kight and brother-in-law Jerry Kight, plus several nephews and nieces. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Joyner Library Priority Fund (in memory of James B. Thompson) and mailed to: Joyner Library Development Office, Mailstop #516, East Carolina University, Greenville, NC 27858. A memorial service will be held at 4:00pm on Monday January 6 ^th 2020, at Holland's United Methodist Church on Ten-Ten Road Raleigh, NC. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
