Mr. James Wesley Young "Wes", 72, of Raleigh, NC passed away peacefully on April 10, 2016 at Transitions Life Hospice after a courageous and long battle. James was born on May 25, 1943 in New York City. He was the only child of Wesley Julius Young and Fannie Carter Young-Doctor. Wes attended New York City public schools. He joined the United States Army in 1961 and served proudly for 5 years. In 1992, he retired from New York City Transit Authority after 25 years of service and relocated to Raleigh in 1993. Wes and Elaine have shared 33 years of devoted love, respect and friendship. He was a member of St. Matthews Baptist Church and attended until illness prevented him from doing so. He has been a very generous and supportive husband, father, stepfather and grandfather. Wesley loved giving words of wisdom to his children. One of his most famous was, "Always have a Plan" and to his grandchildren, "Bring me A's & B's". His family was the pride of his life. Wes was known for being a knowledgeable, witty and wise person who greatly impacted the lives of many. James was unassuming, yet personable. He leaves a legacy of responsibility, loyalty, faith and family values to his loved ones. Wesley was preceded in death by his mother, Fannie Carter-Young Doctor; father, Wesley Julius Young; stepfather, Henry Doctor and his daughter, Andrea Young Miles. He is survived by his devoted wife, Ruth Elaine Young; son, Wesley Young; three stepsons, Troy Adams (Renee), Todd Adams (Vanessa) and Chad Adams; sister-in-law, Joann Mack; twelve grandchildren, Richard (RJ) Volel, Travis Young, Jr., Robert Volel, Andre Volel, Brianna Adams, Simone Adams, Raven Adams, Samara Adams, Jaron Miles, Milan Adams, Israel Hariri, Solomon Adams, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
