Obituary of Jarvis Smith, Sr.

Jarvis Wilton Smith, Sr., 90 of Raleigh passed away Wednesday morning, March 4, 2015 at Duke Raleigh Hospital.

Born March 3, 1925 in Duplin County, he was the son of the late Jarvis and Ruth Burch Smith. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter Ginger Lee Smith; and brother, Lewis "Bert" Smith. Jarvis joined the United States Navy serving in World War II. After being discharged, he worked at Flue-cured Tobacco Stabilization Corporation for 38 years. Jarvis was a graduate of NC State University and a longtime member of Tabernacle Baptist Church.

Jarvis is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Rachel Dixon Smith; sons, Dr. Jarvis "Wilton" Smith and wife Charlene, Mark Smith; grandchildren, Rachel Ann, Morgan, Jacob, and Melanie; great-grandchildren, Teddy and Ellie; nieces, Allison and Kelly.

A Funeral Service will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 7, 2015 at Montlawn Funeral Home Chapel.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service and immediately after.
