Alma Jean Murphrey Mason, 82, died peacefully with her family all around her on Saturday, August 10th, 2024.  Jean was born the 8th of 10 children to Vergie Brown Murphrey and John Daniel Murphrey on July 2nd 1942, in Johnston County, NC.

Jean graduated from Corinth Holders High School. She then started her career as a key punch data processor at Durham Life Insurance Company and then continued in the same line of work at Wachovia Bank, Standard Trucking Company, and Campbell-Brown Inc. She retired in 2001.

Jean met her husband, Curtis Mason, on a blind date and they were married six months later in September of 1961. In 1970 they moved to Charlotte, NC where they raised their four children.

She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints which she joined in 1967. She loved children and served the children in the congregation for many years as a teacher and leader. Her time with them created cherished memories.

Jean loved her family and spending time with them. She also enjoyed spending time at the beach, tennis, knitting, and doing puzzles with her grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by all of her family and friends.

She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Curtis Mason, children; Dwayne G. Mason, Karen Mason Brooks, Jennifer Mason (Dan) Phillips, Marshal (Laurie) Mason, grandchildren; Joshua Brooks, Zachary Brooks, Austin Phillips, Parker Phillips, Spencer Phillips, Archer Phillips, Brigham Phillips, Dallin Mason, Sariah Mason, Lincoln Mason, great-grandchildren; Savannah Brooks, Steven Brooks, Izzy Brooks, sister; Rochelle Kemp, brothers; Harvey Murphrey, Yates (Clara) Murphrey, sister-in-law; Carol Holmes, and numerous nieces and nephews, and her best friends; Mary Tallent, Betty Jo Byrum, and Jean Bundy.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, brothers; Joseph Murphrey, Jesse Murphrey, sisters; Betty Mae Freeman, Mary Lee Pittman, Barbara Ann Rambeaut, Brenda Hutton, son-in-law; Daniel Brooks.
