Obituary of Jerry Grossfeld
Jerry Grossfeld, 90, passed away peacefully on Friday evening, October 31, 2014 at his residence. He was born on August 9, 1924 in Bronx, NY and was the son of Bertha Grossfeld.
He served in the US Army Aircorp during World War II and was stationed in the Phillipines from 1943-45. Jerry earned his Master's degree in social work at the University of PA. Jerry retired in 1989 as the Director of Jewish Family Services of Colorado. That year he was the recipient of the "Colorado Social Worker of the Year", in recognition of his visionary leadership. Following his retirement he volunteered with the Colorado Civil Air Patrol.
He enjoyed listening to classical music and playing the classical guitar, astronomy, woodworking, photography, collecting rare coins, building model airplanes, and writing poetry for his loved ones. His greatest joy was being with his wife, children and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Dorothy Pearl Grossfeld.
Surviving are his sons, Fred Grossfeld and wife Katherine of Cary, and Dr. Paul Grossfeld and wife, Susan of San Diego, CA; daughter, Brenda Grossfeld of Denver, CO; grandchildren, Nathan, Leigh and Stefan Grossfeld.
A graveside service will be held 10:30 am Friday, November 7, 2014 at Raleigh Hebrew Cemetery, 450 North State Street, Raleigh, NC.
