Obituary of Jessie Parrish

Jessie William Parrish, 78 of Clayton, died Friday morning, July 11, 2014.

A Johnston County native, Jessie was the son of the late Jessie L. and Ola Creech Parrish. Jessie began working with the City of Raleigh in May of 1960 with the Solid Waste Services Department and retired from his full time employment in 1992. He also worked at the City's Park and Recreation Department, Raleigh Convention and Conference Center and Memorial Auditorium for 34 years and was a parking lot supervisor at the North Carolina State Fair for 40 years. On May 18, 2010, he was honored by the city of Raleigh for his 50 years of service with the city. Jessie was also a member of The Capital Church in Garner and Tarwheel A's Model A Club and the Quarter Century Club.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ruby Nell Johnson Parrish: daughter Connie Parrish Bias (Andrew Bias), both of Clayton: Gail Parrish Watts (Ron Watts) of Raleigh; 4 grandchildren Candace Watts Evans (Danny Evans, Jr), Christen Watts Ward (Travis Ward), Jessica Shires Bunn (Eric Bunn) and Caleb Watts (Crystal Pickard Watts); 4 great-grandchildren: Shane Evans, Harrison Ward, Liam Ward and Easton Bunn. He is also survived by his brothers: Thurman Parrish, Marvin G. Parrish and Harold Parrish of Clayton and his sisters, Carol Lushene-Edwards of Willow Spring, Faye Shingleton of Garner and Linda Grissom of Four Oaks. He was preceded in death by his grandson, William Michael Shires; sister, Myrtie Atkins and brother Loumas Parrish.

He may be gone, but he will not be forgotten. He will be remembered as a beloved son, brother, husband, father, Papa and friend! "Well done thou good and faithful servant"!

A funeral service will be held at 7:00 pm Sunday, July 13, 2014 at The Capital Pentecostal Holiness Church. The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm Sunday at the church prior to the service. Interment will be held 11 am Monday at Montlawn Memorial Park.
