Jewell Gardner Stallings, 74, died Sunday. She was born in Hartsville, SC to the late Russell Ray and Kate Mosely Gardner. The family moved to Hamlet, NC in 1942 where Jewell grew up and attended school. After graduation, Jewell attended Rex School of Nursing in Raleigh. She worked for the NC Department of Agriculture, Seed Testing Lab where she retired with 36 years of service. She later worked for Macy's and Yankee Candle Co.
Jewell is survived by her husband of 54 years, Stephen A. Stallings; son, Stephen R. Stallings and wife Gina, two grandsons, Jonathan Travis Stallings and Matthew Russell Stalling all of Wake Forest; sister, Katie G. Crawford of Colonial Heights, VA; brother, William Russell Gardner and wife Cindy of Hamlet; numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 6:00 pm Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at Wake Forest United Methodist Church. A family graveside service will be held prior at 2:00 pm Wednesday at Montlawn Memorial Park.
Jewell requested that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Wake Forest UMC, Pastor's Discretionary Fund, 905 S. Main Street, Wake Forest, NC 27587 or to Transitions Life Care and Hospice, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607.
