Obituary

Jo Clark Hudson, 87, passed away in her home in Cary on July 29, 2022. She was born August 14, 1934, in Siluria, Alabama, the daughter of David Lee Clark and Tulabelle Peek Clark. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Grady Clark. She is survived by her husband of almost 69 years, Don Hudson, Sr., daughter, Angela Hudson Kennedy; son, Don Hudson, Jr.; grandchildren, Andrew (Mingen) Ferguson; Lindsey (Matthew) Heinz; Rachel Kennedy; and Karen (Jared) Barnes; and three great grandchildren: Madeleine Ferguson, and Naomi and Scarlett Heinz.

Jo and Don got married November 16, 1953 after meeting in church during Don's leave from the Navy. She had her first child, Angela, in 1954 and her second, Gene, in 1956. She worked as a journalist while her children were young, but devoted the majority of her time to raising her children during her husband's military and pastoral work. Throughout her life and alongside her husband, Jo was dedicated to her faith and to Christian service. She was a faithful attender of Catawba Springs Christian Church since 2004.

"Nana," as her grandchildren dubbed her, loved hosting family meals for birthdays, holidays, and many other occasions, always making each occasion memorable. She was renowned in particular for her macaroni and cheese; her dining room table was also a frequent site for holiday craft projects and family board games. She was an avid bedtime storyteller, making up unique characters whose adventures could span weeks or months. She lovingly babysat whenever she was needed and never missed one of her grandchildren's school events or sports games. Jo also loved and spoiled many pets, often calling herself a "grandmother to all animals."

A visitation will be held on Saturday, August, 6, 2022, from 1–2:00 pm at Montlawn Funeral and Cremation Services, where a funeral will begin in the chapel at 2:00 pm. Pastor Chuck Woodruff will be officiating. Interment will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park.
