Obituary

Dr. Joan S. Gottlieb, age 95, of Garner, NC,  passed away peacefully on November 30, 2022 following a sudden illness.

Joan was born on July 25, 1927 in Howard Lake, Minnesota. Her parents were Otto and Phoebe Scheer. She had two sisters Myran Jean, and Jane.

Joan graduated from South High School, Minneapolis, MN, in June 1945. Then graduated from University of Minnesota with her B.S., B.A., M.E.D., She later obtained her PhD in Education from the University of South Carolina.

Joan married Donald Gottlieb on August 2, 1947. Joan was a teacher at St. Paul High School. Later she worked at the Minneapolis Science Museum. They moved to Massachusetts in 1959 and opened an import store.

After a move to Florida, Joan returned to teaching again, and taught Special Ed.  The couple then moved to California, and Georgia, before returning to Florida.  Joan had created many teaching worksheets, and began turning them into workbooks.  Donald and Joan also opened a printing company at that time.

Donald passed away in May of 1971. Joan moved to South Carolina and obtained her real estate license. She also obtained her PhD during this time, and began publishing her workbooks.

In 2002 Joan moved to Garner, N.C. She has lived in the village for eleven happy years. There she has made many friends, and enjoyed painting, cards, and the singles club. In the village she wknown as "The Turtle Lady" because of her well loved pet turtle.

Joan was predeceased by her parents: Otto and Phoebe Scheer, her husband, Donald Gottlieb, sister: Myran Conley, and brother-in-law: Willard Conley.

Joan is survived by four daughters. - Susan Sisk (Michael), Brunswick, GA,; Pamela Gottlieb, Norcross, GA; Lynn Quick (Brian), Raeford, NC; Jill Illick, Kentucky; six grandsons: Jeremy Sisk, Gordon, GA; Jody Sisk (Danielle), St. Augustine, FL; Christopher Quick, Raeford, NC; Cason Sisk, Bedford, NH; Corey Quick, Raeford, NC; Jason Illick, Kentucky; two granddaughters: Melissa DeLargy (Ed) Cary, NC; Stephanie Quick (John), Cary, NC.

Joan is also survived by ten great grandchildren. - Nolan Sisk, Abigail DeLargy, Kayla Sisk, Maya Sisk, Madison Quick, Gavin DeLargy, Mason Sisk, Cobie Sisk, Emersyn Sisk, and Jacob Sisk. She will be missed by her best friend of 50 years, her turtle, Herman.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on December 10, 2022 at Montlawn Funeral Home, 2911 S. Wilmington St. Raleigh, NC. 27603.
