Obituary of Joe Jones, Jr.

Joe Sire Jones, Jr. 89 of Raleigh, passed away suddenly, Saturday morning, November 21, 2015 at his residence.

Born August 12, 1926 in Wake County, NC, he was the son of the late Joe Sire Jones and Florence Markham Jones. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Rose Jones; and brothers, Percy and Clyde Jones.

Joe is survived by his sons, John Dancy-Jones (Cara); Doug Jones (Deborah); grandchildren, Justin, Lily, Cameron, Dorian, and Weston; sister, Dot Baker; and many nieces and nephews.

Joe was a veteran of the United States Navy and served in World War II. He owned and operated Capitol Soda Shop, later Jay's Luncheonette for 26 years in downtown Raleigh. Located one block from the Capitol, "Jay" hosted many legislators, lobbyists, and local business people. He was the protg of William Henly Deitrich, a renowned architect. Joe remained friends with many of his fellow graduates of Hugh Morson High School.

Baptized at age 75, Joe was an active member of Emmanuel Pentecostal Holiness Church, which his mother helped to found. He served as Deacon and faithful attendee. Joe dedicated his life to winning his family members to the Lord.

A Funeral Service will be held 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at Montlawn Funeral Home Chapel.
