Joel Lynn Newton, 54, a native of Raleigh, passed away on Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at the Hospice Home in Raleigh, after battling cancer, its treatments and reoccurrences for 38 years.
He is survived by his parents Melvin F. and Nancy Newton, his precious sister, Julia Leigh Newton, who was his major caregiver these last few months along with the wonderful home care personnel and the staff at the Hospice Center.
Joel was a lover of classical music and was a true gentleman and a scholar who was so well read he could discuss almost any subject with anyone.
Joel was a skilled craftsman and self taught artist who believed he had the God given gift to see beauty, color and form, in nature that others did not see.
He loved art museums in Raleigh, Philadelphia, and D.C. as well as all bookstores. He could stroll through a museum or gallery filled with paintings by the masters and could tell the artist by his brush strokes.
