JOHN WILLIAM BAILEY SR.
June 19, 1934 - May 27, 2022
John William Bailey Sr. was the son of Lyman Abbott Bailey Sr. and Ethyl King Bailey. He was born in Raleigh, NC where he spent his entire life. In July of 1954 he married his wife of 68 years Sunny Wooten Bailey. He was a loving husband, devoted father, and son. He was a good and loyal friend to many. He was raised in Tabernacle Baptist Church where he remained a loyal member his entire life. He worked for Sears Roebuck for 42 years before retiring at age 62. He was preceded in death by his parents Lyman and Ethyl Bailey, his only brother Lyman Abbott Bailey Jr., his eldest son John William Bailey Jr., and his grandson Patrick McCormick. He is survived by his loving wife Sunny Wooten Bailey; his sons Wayne Bailey and wife Carrie of Wake Forest, NC, Brian Bailey and wife Robin of Benson, NC, Dale Bailey of Carolina Beach, NC, daughter in-law Ann Whittington of Benson, NC; his grandchildren John William Bailey III and wife Brynna of Raleigh, NC, Catherine Sierra and husband Alex of Holly Springs, NC, Brooke Peters and husband Brian of Wake Forest, NC, Lane Bailey of Ayden, NC, Chris Bailey and wife Meaghan of St. Louis, MO, Robert Bailey of Benson, NC, Megan McCormick of Benson, NC, Nathan Bailey of Raleigh, NC, Ian Bailey of Wake Forest, NC, Joshua Bailey of Mammoth Lake, CA, Sarah Bailey of Swansboro, NC; and his many great grandchildren, Juliana, Liam, Josilyn, and Jessi of Raleigh, NC, Isaiah and Noah Gregory of Holly Springs, NC, and Travis Benton of Swansboro, NC. John was a good Christian man who raised his children in the church. He loved to fish, hunt, garden, and spend time with family.
He was a good friend to all who knew him, and he will be missed greatly. His family celebrates that he is at peace and at home with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Services will be held on Friday, June 3, 2022. Visitation for family and friends will begin at 1pm, funeral
at 2pm, with burial and graveside service to follow.
