John Franklin "Frank" Campbell, 88, of Raleigh, NC, died on the morning of July 8, 2017 at Rex Hospital in Raleigh. He was born on November 28, 1928 in Bunnlevel, North Carolina to Daniel Graham Campbell Sr. and Idell O'Quinn Campbell. On October 27, 2016, Frank celebrated sixty years of marriage to the love of his life, Barbara "Bobbie" Liles Campbell of Wake County.
Frank retired as Executive Vice President of Carolina Builders Corporation in 1989 after a long, distinguished career. He began working at a young age and loved to recount stories of his early job experiences to his family. He had a wide variety of jobs including paper boy, soda jerk, and repo man where he displayed a strong work ethic which he would carry throughout his career.
Frank graduated from New Hanover High School in Wilmington, North Carolina in 1947. He attended North Carolina State University and was a lifelong Wolfpack fan. He achieved the rank of Sgt. First Class E-7 in the United States Army.
Frank enjoyed a big country breakfast, quick rounds of golf, watching his Atlanta Braves, and texting with his grandsons. His pipe was never far away and he rocked his girls, grandsons, and great-grandchildren to sleep many times with his deep, melodious rendition of Waltzing Matilda. Frank was a longtime member of White Memorial Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by his wife Bobbie Campbell; daughters Julie Pearce (Tim) and Jamie Ayscue (David); grandsons Andrew Carter, Vann Pearce (Emily), Stephen Pearce (Leslie), John Pearce (Sarah), and James Ayscue; great-grandchildren Owen, Emma, Charlotte, Annabelle, and Brody Pearce; sisters Iona Lewis and Patti Szmuriga (Art). He was preceded in death by his parents and his two brothers, Graham and Bruce Campbell.
Per Frank's wishes, a private memorial service will be held at a later date.
For the way you lived your life and the example you set for us as a husband, daddy, granddaddy, and great-gran, we will be forever grateful.
