GOLDSBORO

John "JACK" Daniel Matthews, 75, passed away on Thursday, March 12th.

He was born in Raleigh, NC to Dan and Juanita (Upchurch) Matthews.

He leaves behind his loving wife Kay Cornell Matthews of almost thirty seven years; sons Vincent "Skeeter" Matthews and Jeremy D. Matthews (Jenny); grandchildren, Charlie, Jarrett (Kaylen), Jason (Heather), Mack (Liz), Sarah (Justin), Paul, Taylor (Dustin), Knox and Gracie; great-grandchildren, Spencer, Ada, Liam, Austin, Magnolia, Owen, Emma and Carson due in May; sister, Judith Matthews Prevatte (Alton); niece, Courteney P. Howell (Glenn); great-niece, Emma Howell; brother-in-law, Clyde Cornell (Betty Lou); sister-in-law, Connie Sanderford and uncle, Paul Matthews of Cary, NC

Jack attended Camden Military Academy and served in the US Air Force before starting a career in trucking which continued until his death. He retired from Catawba Valley Community College as a Truck Driver Training instructor, presently employed with Johnston Community College as a CDL Tester.

Jack was a great husband and loved the little ones, never met a stranger and was quick to give a hug or handshake to everyone. He was a member of the Oak Forest Church of Christ, a Mason and NC State fan. Jack truly lived life to its fullest.

The family will also be holding a memorial service at a later date to be determined.
