Obituary

John was born on January 13, 1970 to Dr. Robert R Morrison Jr and Margaret M Morrison. He was born with Down Syndrome and a congenital heart defect. He was the cutest baby with a single curl on his head. The doctors tried to talk his parents into placing him in an institution, but they would have none of that. And because of this decision we were privileged to have John in our lives for 48 years.  John went to Enloe High School where he attended special ED classes and graduated in 1991. After Enloe John lived with his parents and eventually moved into a group home in Raleigh where he met 5 of his lifelong friends.  John worked at Wake Enterprises and Life Experiences which provided contract service to multiple businesses in the Triangle. John was proud of his work and the paycheck he earned.  He participated in multiple Special Olympic events held in North Carolina and eventually won a Gold Medal for Softball pitching.

John didn't walk as quickly as most children, but he could roll anywhere he wanted and slam a door in your face before you even knew what happened. He eventually learned to sit up and scoot on his backside wherever he wanted. When he finally learned to walk, there was no stopping him. He got into everything just like the rest of us. John loved to dress up in a cape when he was little. He was Superman.  He was quick with a smile and a big teaser. John loved music and was the best dancer in the family. He loved playing video games especially bowling and could beat all of us at it. John loved. He loved everybody unconditionally, all the time. He loved to hug. He loved to tickle. He loved to kiss cheeks. He loved to dance and sing. He loved to eat. He loved to tease. He loved to be the center of attention. He loved to praise the Lord. He loved to be loved. And he was very loved. John always said he was God's special angel and God has called his special angel home. We will miss John dearly everyday, especially his winning smile, and he will always remain forever in our hearts.  We were able to create wonderful memories over the years and it has been a privilege and honor to be his family.

In addition to his grandparents, John was preceded in death by his parents Dr. and Mrs. Robert R. Morrison Jr, and his brother David S. Morrison.  John is survived by his brother, Robert Raymond Morrison III and wife Lorraine of Apex, his sister, Janet M Turner and husband Vic of Apex, his sister, Leigh M Walker and husband Greg of Oak Island, two great nieces, two great nephews, many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. A private family burial will be held at Montlawn Memorial Park. A Celebration of John's life will be held at a later date. Online condolences may be left to the family at www.montlawn.com/john-morrison.
