On September 12, 2022 John W. Person, 98 years, of Raleigh, NC went to be with his Lord and Saviour. He was a long-time resident of Springmoor Life Care Retirement Community. Mr. Person is preceded in death by his parents Fitzhugh Lee and Robbie C. Person, his wife Marianna Newlin Person, and his brother Richard L. Person. He is survived by his daughter Gayle Person Currie of Greensboro, his son John W. Person, Jr. (Ann) of Raleigh, sister-in-law Betty Newlin Murray of Seven Springs, nieces Sandy Murray Luke of Cedaredge, CO, and Anna Newlin Vondrasek of Chicago, IL and nephews Dr. H.V. Murray III of Seven Springs and David M. Murray of High Point, NC.

Mr. Person was born in Gallatin, TN. He was an Eagle Scout and attended Wake Forest University. He served as a sergeant in the 87th Infantry of the U.S. Army in World War II. Mr. Person worked as the used car manager at Thompson Cadillac and Oldsmobile and later as a mortgage banker with NCNB, Northwestern Mortgage and Barclays Mortgage. He served as Treasurer of the North Carolina Home Builders Association and was inducted into the North Carolina Housing Hall of Fame in 2001.
John Person was an avid golfer, often shooting his age, and a longtime member of Carolina Country Club. He served as a Deacon and the Treasurer at First Presbyterian Church in Raleigh. John was admired and respected by all who knew him.

A graveside service will be held at 2 pm on September 15, 2022 at Montlawn Memorial Park, 2911 S. Wilmington Street, Raleigh, NC 27603. Arrangements provided by Montlawn Funeral Home, www.Montlawn.com.
