Obituary

John "Johnny" Richard Baker, 80, of Angier, met his Savior on Sunday, April 28, 2024. Born March 11, 1944, Johnny was the son of Rudolph and Alberta Baker. He grew up in a military family, ultimately residing in Wake County, NC. He graduated from Cary High School class of 1962 and was a proud U.S. Army veteran. Johnny retired from a long successful career with the U.S. Postal Service.

Johnny and his beloved wife, Marsha, whom he affectionately called "Mar" were the proud parents of two sons, Ricky and Michael, 5 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Johnny enjoyed the family life, treating his extended family to seasons out on the boat at Jordan Lake and co-hosting with Marsha countless family gatherings at their home. He loved his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren with unconditional love and lots of fun. His jokes were legendary and his family-first faithfulness were, too. Johnny owned a professional stump grinding business after retirement and could be found enjoying the company of a large group of buddies at the local breakfast joint. He was a proud American Patriot.

Above all, his heart, mind, and undying love and affection belonged to one woman-his faithful bride of 62 years, Marsha. It never ceased to amaze anyone of the infinite number of phone calls he made to her daily when they were rarely apart. He valued her companionship, desired her opinion, and loved her very presence. Theirs was a true love story.

Johnny is survived by his wife, Marsha Ann Pate Baker, son Ricky Baker(Beverly), grandsons: Matthew Baker, Mitchell Baker, granddaughters; Lauren Baker McGinty (Nate) , Sarah Baker, Rachel Baker, great-grandchildren; Daniel, Allie, Kate and Kennie. Johnny was preceded in death by his parents, sister: Susan Baker Bell, and beloved son, Michael Edward Baker.
