John Morgan Roman (92), passed away on January 12, 2022.  John was born in Montgomery Alabama to John Roman and Bertha Idella Simpson Roman.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his half-brother James Carl Simpson, half-sister Bertha Brassil, and wife Ann Cathey Roman.  He is survived by his daughter Peggi Roman Bird (Michael) of Cary, NC, and two grandsons, Morgan Stevenson of Cary, NC, and Preston Stevenson of Raleigh, NC.

John spent 73 years married to the love of his life, Ann.

John entered the US Air Force in August of 1948. He was a Korean War veteran 1951- 1952.  He was then reassigned from Korea to Fort Bragg, NC, California and Nagoya, Japan.   He was later assigned to the 1005 th Special Investigations Group in Washington, DC as a Special Agent OSI, with duty assignments in Chicago, IL, Los Angeles, CA, and Misawa, Japan with temporary duty in Vietnam.  He was then reassigned to New York, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts.  He retired July 1969 with the rank of Master Sergeant. After his retirement, John became as US Postal Inspector with assignments in Washington DC, Atlanta, Ga, Jackson, Mississippi, Huntsville, AL and Raleigh, NC.  In 1979, John changed careers to become a long distance truck driver and was an owner operator for Blue Ridge Transfer.  In 1994, John retired at age 65 and decided part-time work as a Security Officer with the NC State Fairgrounds would keep him busy until Ann became ill and he decided he would be her caregiver until her death on November 20, 2021, keeping his promise that she would never be placed in a nursing home.

John became a Mason October 22, 1964 and was a member of Hudson River Lodge F & AM #309 in New Windsor, NY.  He was a 32nd degree Mason.  He was a charter member of the Amran Temple in Raleigh, NC, a lifetime member of the VFW, and also a member of the American Legion Post #1 in Raleigh, NC.

John was known for his wry sense of humor, telling of tall tales, and his love for his family, Country and the US Air Force. He will be missed by his family and friends.

The family will receive friends and family Saturday, January 29 th from 1:00-2:00pm at Montlawn Memorial Park, funeral Home and Cremations.  A service will be held at 2:00pm with Pastor Craig Hardee officiating.  Burial will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park.  Memorials may be made in lieu of flowers to The Masonic Home for Children at Oxford, NC or Salem Baptist Church in Apex, NC.
