John Drew Woerner was surrounded by his family when he met Jesus on February 5th, 2025, at the age of 81.
He was the son of the late Otto Henry Woerner and Wynne McAfee Woerner of Morganton, NC. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Kathy Miller, of Lincolnton, NC.
Drew was a long time resident of Dunn, NC and retired from management at Erwin Mills after more than a 40 year career. He was an active member of Crossroads Church in Benson, NC and found great joy in serving the Lord.
Throughout his life Drew made family his priority, and enjoyed adventures and travel with his wife, children and grandchildren. He supported his family and community as a youth sports coach, church leader, scout leader and had a true servants heart.
Drew particularly enjoyed North Carolina State University, the Carolina Hurricanes and attending sporting events with family. He was passionate about the outdoors, boating and sailing with his family and friends.
Drew was passionate about mission work and he participated in many mission trips, both internationally and domestically. He also worked with and supported organizations that provided medical treatment for individuals that had a need. Drew positively influenced the lives of others, leaving a lasting impression on his family, friends and community through his actions, kindness and contributions.
He is survived by his wife, Tammy of Dunn, NC, his children, Ric Woerner and his wife Mary of Wirtz, VA, Tom Woerner of Angier, NC, Andy Woerner and his wife Angela of Fuquay Varina, NC, Amanda Young and her husband Tyler of Garner, NC, and James Woerner and his wife Shannon of Raleigh, NC.
He was also a proud Grandfather to seven Grandchildren, including Beth of Harrisonburg, VA, Steven and his wife Abby of Staunton, VA, Grayer of Fuquay Varina, NC, Henry & Allie of Garner, NC, Paxton & Landon of Raleigh, NC, and a Great Granddaughter, Aila of Staunton, VA, as well as family friends Rachael Pleasant and Nikki Grinnell.
There will be a small private ceremony for the family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, c/o Betty and Otto Woerner Endowment Fund, CB# 7295, UNC at Chapel Hill, Chapel Hill, NC 27599, or Pretty in Pink Foundation, 5171 Glenwood Avenue Suite 360, Raleigh NC 27612
