Obituary of Johnny Belton
Johnny Robert Belton, 77, of Raleigh, died Thursday, December 6, 2012.
A Service of Remembrance will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, January 12, 2013 at Macedonia Baptist Church in Raleigh with military honors. Private inurnment will be on his son's farm in McLeansville at a later date. The family will receive friends from 1-3 p.m Saturday prior to the service service.
A native of Surry County, Johnny was the owner, operator and general contractor of J. R. Belton and Associates. He retired as a Senior Chief Petty Officer from the United States Navy Seabees with 30 years of service. Johnny never met a stranger, was generous to a fault and was an avid deer hunter and during deer season would share venison with his family, friends and homeless shelters.
Johnny is survived by his wife, Jo Collins-Duke of Raleigh; daughter, Kim E. Vaughn and her husband Randy and their children, Sydney and Nikki Vaughn, all of Climax; son, Chris Belton and his partner Tony Prestwood of McLeanville; his sisters, Mary Ann Willis of Richmond, VA, Nancy Jo Hagan of Maryland; brother, Tommy Belton of Apex; stepchildren, Sharon Robertson of Raleigh, Marilyn Davis of Easley, SC, Chris Duke of Raleigh; step grandchildren, Joseph and Zac Carey, Justin and Michael Davis, Kristen, Lucas and Samantha Duke and the mother of his children, Helen A. Poore of Greensboro. He was preceded in death by his former wife, Anne Belton.
