Celebrating the Life of Josephine Yamoah Odoom

With love and gratitude, we celebrate the remarkable life of Josephine Yamoah Odoom, affectionately known as "Mama Jo" by her family and friends and simply "Mom" to her children. She peacefully departed this life on Thursday, July 16, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of unwavering faith, enduring strength, and unconditional love. Josephine was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, John Kwesi Odoom, her parents, one sister, and beloved grandson, Derrick Dankwa. She leaves behind a legacy of strength, love, and faith that continues through her children: Vibeke Odoom Dankwa, Charles Owusu Odoom, John Kojo Odoom (Verna), Ellen Odoom Horne and her goddaughter, Kiesha Parker (Eric). Mama Jo was a loving and devoted grandmother whose greatest joy was her family. She is lovingly remembered by her grandchildren: Lily Simpson (Micah), Rhoda Dankwa, Luther Dankwa, Terrence Dankwa, Jacob Kweku Odoom, Jonathan Odoom, Sarafina Odoom, Micah Odoom, Makaila Odoom, Mattia Odoom, Myles Horne, and Mason Horne. She was blessed with great-grandchildren: Aliyah Simpson, Brielle Simpson, and Raine Dankwa. She also leaves behind her loving sisters, brothers, cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Josephine retired after over 15 years of dedicated service with ConvaTec in Greensboro, North Carolina. She was admired for her kindness, strong work ethic, and generous spirit. In retirement, she remained committed to serve her community and family both in the United States and in her beloved homeland of Ghana. Mama Jo’s life was a testament to faith, perseverance, love, and her gentle spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those blessed to know her. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made in honor of Josephine Odoom's late grandson, Derrick Dankwa, to the Derrick Dankwa Memorial Sound Studio at the Art Academy of Cincinnati, 1212 Jackson Street, Cincinnati, OH 45202.
