Obituary of Joshua Tomlinson

Josh William Tomlinson "Mr. T", 96 of 25 Sunnybrook Rd formerly of 4420 Ryegate Drive Raleigh passed away in his sleep early June 14, 2014. He was born in Wilson, N. C. and moved to Goldsboro in the early 40's to work for Dewey Brothers Foundry. In 1955 he accepted a position with Southern Foundry and moved to Raleigh. He continued working there until his retirement.

While working at the foundry he was instrumental in starting The Embers Club on Davie St. in the early 60's. He continued on being a huge part of The Embers Club on Creekside Drive, The Embers-Hilton Underground and Embers Club on Capital Blvd. He started his own pizza and gameroom named Mr. T's and ran it for several years in the early 80's. He also loved operating a booth at Watson's Flea Market for many years after the clubs ceased to operate. He would find furniture and rebuild it and make somethnig junky look valuable again. He ldoved working with his hands.

Many musicians that are in the current beach bands crossed paths with Mr. T and were always left with a good feeling and a smile on their face from his many jokes. He always put family and friends first and would give you the shirt off his back. He will be missed by many as Mr. T was one of a kind.

He was preceeded in death in 2006 of his wife of 70 years Ida Ruth "Mrs T" Tomlinson. Surviving are three son Bill Tomlinson and wife Jean of Fuquay-Varina, Bobby Tomlinson of Raleigh, John Tomlinson and wife Paula of Raleigh. four grandchildren, Thom Tomlinson and wife Diane, K. T. Tomlinson and husband Scott Waterhouse, John and Josh Tomlinson; and Great grandson Taylor Tomlinson.

Visitation will begin at 11:00 am and the funeral service will be at 1:00 pm on Wednesday June 18 at Montlawn Memorial Park, 2911 S. Wilmington Street Raleigh, N. C.
