Obituary of Joy Jones

Joy Neta Jones, 56, died Sunday, January 10, 2016 at Wake Med in Raleigh. She was born March 4, 1959 in Raleigh and graduated from Garner High School. She received a BS Degree from East Carolina University and a Masters in Education from NC State University.

In 1981 she began her 30 year teaching career working with high school special needs students. She retired in 2011 but continued to work as a substitute teacher.

Surviving are her uncle, Bernard Harlow Fowler and wife Nancy; cousin, Stewart Fowler and wife Amy; special caregiver, Pamela Swann.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Gordon and Peggy Fowler Jones.

A memorial service will be held 11 am Thursday at Fellowship Baptist Church, 5029 Old Stage Road, Raleigh, NC 27603. Interment will be private.

The family will receive friends at the church on Thursday from 10-11 am prior to the service.
