Obituary of Joyce Smith

Joyce Benson Smith, 90, died Tuesday at William Dunlap Hospice Center. Born in Johnston County to Henry Kemper Benson and Susie Hughes Benson, She was a loving wife and mother who devoted her life to her family. She was a member of Jenkins Memorial United Methodist Church.

A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Friday at Montlawn Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph E. Smith and son George Michael Smith.

Surviving are her sons, Joe E. Smith, Jr. and wife Julia of Belhaven, Phillip B, Smith and wife Sudie of Belhaven, and Adam L. Smith of Raleigh; daughters, Candice S. King and husband W.A. of Raleigh and Sue S. Cheek and husband Daniel of Garner; daughter-in-law, Jane Q. Smith of Wake Forest; grandchildren, Kemper, Jody, Jamie, Melissa, Meghan and Michael; great-grandchildren, Hannah, Shelby and Henry; sister, Shirley Watts and husband Fred of Ft. Lauderdale, FL.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 pm on Thursday.
