Obituary of Julia Carter

Mrs. Julia Daniel Carter, 96, of Raleigh, formally of Fayetteville, NC died peacefully on February 4, 2012 at her residence.

Born September 15, 1915 in Lakeland, Florida, Julia was the daughter of the late Gus and Annie Daniel.

She was a graduate of Lakeland High School in Florida and earned her A.B. Degree in Elementary Education from Florida State University in Tallahassee, FL, where she was a member of Alpha Omicron Pi Social Sorority. She did graduate work at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, NC.

Julia had a great love for children and taught first grade in Florida and Cumberland County, NC for 30 years. Prior to her retirement in 1975, she taught at Sunnyside Elementary School for 19 years in Cumberland County.

Julia was a member of Greystone Baptist Church, an active member of the Fellowship Sunday School Class, and the "Solos" lunchgroup.

Julia was preceded in death in 1982 by her beloved husband, K.W. Carter of Fayetteville, NC, her sisters Anna Margaret Daniel Sanders, and Ruth Daniel Dye.

Julia was a longtime resident of Fayetteville, but moved to Raleigh in 1988 to be near her son and family.

She is survived by her son, Wilson Gregory Carter, and wife Teresa Woodard Carter; two grandchildren, Christopher Wilson Carter and Catherine Ann Carter, all of Raleigh, NC; a sister, Mary Sue Daniel Maynard of Atlanta, GA; two nieces, Jacqie Still of Atlanta, GA and Anne Sloop of Charlottesville, VA; two nephews, Dan Maynard of Melbourne, FL and Dan Dye of Raleigh, NC; a number of great and great-great nieces and nephews.

A private burial will be held in Fayetteville at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in memory of Julia to Greystone Baptist Church, 7509 Lead Mine Road, Raleigh, NC 27615 or Macedonia Baptist Church "Cemetery Fund", 5064 Macedonia Church Road, Fayetteville, NC 28312.
