IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Kathy
Athey
January 20, 1955 – October 31, 2020
RALEIGH
Our mother, Kathy Athey, reunited with our father in heaven on October 31, 2020 at 1:17am after a 3-year battle with Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer. We will not let that brief time in her amazing life define her, but we do want to shine a spotlight on the courage and strength she showed daily.
She loved nature and all it had to offer. We enjoyed our yearly camping trips growing up creating so many great memories of tubing down the river and feeding wildlife to name a few.
Colorado had her heart from day one. Our most recent trip was the summer of 2019 where we made it back to the top of Pikes Peak where it even began to snow while we were there. We will forever hold this memory dear to our hearts. A true girl's trip.
Her favorite holiday was Christmas. She just loved the magic of Christmas and all the joy it brings. She loved spending weeks decorating the house and throwing the most amazing Christmas parties. Seeing everyone gather around, laughing and smiling. It was the small things in life that mom truly loved.
Kathy is survived by her two daughters, her 3 brothers Doug (Diane), Dan (Clare), and Chris (Wendy). Her Nieces and Nephews and their children (Jackson, Lyla, Garrett, and Gracie) who she loved dearly. As well as many other family and friends.
She will be remembered as the most amazing, hilarious, selfless, and caring mother, wife, sister, sister in-law, aunt, mother in-law, daughter, cousin, and friend. She will truly be missed by so many, but we take solace in the fact that she is free of her bodily ailments and will be at peace watching over us forever.
Loving Daughters,
Kimberly (Kim) Athey & Amanda (Mandy) Athey
"Those we love don't go away, they walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard, but always near, so loved, so missed, so very dear."
