Obituary of Leneir Walker

Leneir "Len" Pierce Walker, 75, died peacefully in his home on February 23, 2014, surrounded by his loving family after an extended battle with heart disease and cancer. He was born on September 29, 1938, in Maysville, Kentucky and was preceded in death by his parents, William Henry and Verra Truesdell Walker, both of Maysville. Upon graduation from Orangeburg High School, Len attended Milligan College and East Tennessee State University. He served a stint in the US Army as well as 5 years with the National Guard.

Len was an active real estate broker in the Cary area for over 35 years. He was one of the founding partners of the Real Estate Center of Cary, sole proprietor of both The Real Estate Helper and LW Properties, as well as a broker with Prudential Realty and Fonville Morisey, Lochmere office. He was an original member of Cary Toastmasters and an active member of the Greensboro Jaycees, and was also a longtime member of Greenwood Forest Baptist Church.

Len was a competitive golfer, enjoyed country music, and an avid Carolina Tarheels fan. He was also fondly known to friends and family for his many practical jokes.

He leaves behind his loving wife of 50 years, Carolyn Henley Walker. He is also survived by his two children; his son, Mark Walker and wife, Amy, of Apex, and his daughter, Amy Walker Mills and husband, Greg, of Fuquay Varina, as well as two 12-year old granddaughters, Haley Walker and Ansley Mills. He also leaves a sister, Lynette Walker Saine and husband, Jim, and two nieces, Shelbi and Jenna Saine, all of Atlanta, Georgia.

Len's family would like to thank Doctors Kelley and Hamrick of Carolina Cardiology of Raleigh, Dr. Joseph Rogers' cardiac transplant team at Duke Medicine, and the Oncology Department at Duke Medicine of Raleigh for their ongoing care and support.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service, officiated by Dr. Benjamin Boswell, will be held at 3 pm on Friday, February 28, at Greenwood Forest Baptist Church, 110 S.E. Maynard Road, Cary.
