Leon Creel Stanley of Garner, NC died on November 2, 2015 at Greenfield Place in Greenville, NC.

Leon was born in Faison, NC to Lewis Montrose Stanley and Sally Creel Stanley on 9-24-1924. He graduated from Piney Grove High School in Faison. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, and fought in Okinawa during World War II. Afterwards, he worked with Hunt General Tire Company in Raleigh for over 40 years. After his retirement from Hunt General Tire Company, he served others in the senior community by delivering Meals on Wheels. He enjoyed fishing and sports, especially Wolfpack football.

Leon is survived by his three children, Michael Stanley and wife, Rhonda of Greenville, NC, Steve Stanley and wife Danelle, of Norwalk, CA, and Gail Gerdes and husband, Mark of Wilmington, NC; his six grandchildren, Erin Stanley of Raleigh, NC, Lee Stanley and wife, Courtney, of Indian Trail, NC, Nick Cain and Jennifer Johnson, of Norwalk, CA, Evan Rudisill of Raleigh,NC, and Carley and Reid Gerdes of Wilmington, NC; his two great-grandchildren, Kayla Grace Stanley of Indian Trail, NC and Marley Cain of Norwalk, CA; his two sisters, Jean Crawford and husband, Gilbert, of Eure, NC and Virginia King and husband, Elwood, of Ayden, NC.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Reid Stanley, as well as his brothers, Lester and Leighton Stanley and his sister, Evelyn Retos.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the dedicated staff of Greenfield Place who loved and cared for Leon and became his second family.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am Friday, November 6, 2015 at Montlawn Memorial Park in Raleigh with Rev. Gilbert Crawford officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 - 11:00 am prior to the service at Montlawn Funeral Home.
