IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lester Eugene
Waters
November 22, 1935 – January 2, 2024
Lester Eugene Waters went to be with our Lord and Savior on Tuesday, January 2, 2024. He was surrounded by his family in his final days. He was affectionately known as Gene and Doc, a beloved son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was a man of integrity, intelligence, and humor.
Gene was born in Pantego, North Carolina, on November 22, 1935, to Lester Vann Waters and Eva Gaskins Waters. He was the youngest of four siblings. He grew up in Plymouth, North Carolina, and attended Plymouth High School where he excelled in football and academics. This led him to earn an academic scholarship to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, from which he graduated Phi Beta Kappa at the top of his accounting class in 1958.
Following graduation, Gene earned his CPA and began his career at Price Waterhouse. He retired in 1994 from the NC Electric Cooperative in Raleigh.
Gene married his high school sweetheart, Jane Keel, in 1957, and the two remained together for 66 wonderful years. They were blessed with two children, Mike and Rick Waters. After living and working in several places throughout the Southeast, the family settled in Cary, NC, in 1979. Gene enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, playing cards, going to the movies, and dancing with his wife. In his retirement years, he devoted his time to his family, especially his four grandchildren. He loved supporting them by attending their various ball games, activities, and hosting birthday parties.
His loved ones rejoice that Gene is now healed, whole, and reunited with his Heavenly Father and his loved ones who went before him.
Gene is survived by his loving wife, Jane, his children, Mike (Kathy) and Rick (Lisa), his grandchildren, Kyle (Katie), Ally Dearstyne (Sam), Grant, Brad, and his great granddaughter, Tatum Elizabeth Waters, along with many nephews, nieces, and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Eva Waters, and his siblings, Earl Waters, Jay Waters, and Lois Greene.
A service of death and resurrection will be held on Friday, January 12, 2024, at Montlawn Funeral Home, 2911 S Wilmington St, Raleigh, North Carolina. Visitation will begin at 11 AM, followed by a graveside service at 12 PM.
