Leta Wall Marshburn February 25, 1929 – January 7, 2020 God is good y'all.

Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. Deuteronomy 6:5

Our mom, Leta Mae (or as she used to say, Leta May or Leta May Not), lived her 90 year life to the fullest. She would have been 91 in February. Leta married Latta, had Lynda and a dog named Lady, and then came Gail, Kip and Susan. Mom and dad were married for 57 years. Mom often said "She didn't want a fly on a string," but yet over the years, we had numerous dogs, cats, ducks, a parakeet, gerbil and a turtle. The parakeet particularly loved to fly around the kitchen and land in mom's beehive hairdo as she was frying chicken. Mom was the middle of 3 sisters who were referred to as "The Golden Girls." They were best friends and extremely entertaining. They drew a crowd wherever they went. Both sisters, Juanita and Gerry, passed away within the past 3 years. Can you imagine the Heavenly sister reunion when mom arrived?

Mom was fiercely independent and demonstrated it by continuing to live alone. She drove her car and pickup truck until 6 months ago. Mom still got her hair and nails done and would regularly keep up with her children and grandchildren by texting them on her iPhone. She loved Facebook. She was on first name basis with the bank tellers, Bojangles workers and CVS staff.

She was so proud of her 4 children, 9 grandchildren (Trent, Travis, Kenzie, Daniel, Mallory, Drew, Macy, Maddy and Hartwell) and 5 great grandchildren (Ava, Wyatt, Beckett, Tilman and Autumn). Lots of family time was spent eating, laughing and making memories. Her career as a secretary served her well. She kept meticulous records. And, heaven forbid, if you ever challenged her, 99.9% of the time she was correct. And, if there was any doubt, she could prove it. She earned her designation as a Certified Professional Secretary and won a couple of County awards. She was a member of the Raleigh Chapter of Professional Secretaries International, Sunshine Seniors and No Spouse in the House.

For close to 40 years, she was a member of Mount Vernon Baptist Church and was active in her Sunday school class. Her hobbies (besides eating, a common Wall family trait) included ceramics and competitive line dancing in the Senior State games and the NC State Fair. In later years, she started painting watercolors but switched to acrylics. She painted over 30 pictures which grace walls of family members and friends. Boxes full of word search puzzles kept her mind sharp as a tack. She also enjoyed using coloring pencils, reading romance novels and watching Saturday and Sunday afternoon sports. She prided herself on making everyone feel comfortable and welcome.

She died of pulmonary fibrosis but, let us tell you, she got her mileage worth out of those beautiful lungs. She loved to laugh, tell stories, share a funny joke, sing and cheer on her favorite sports teams, the NC State Wolfpack and Carolina Panthers. She could rival any ESPN sportscaster with sports info. Even up to 3 days ago, mom mentioned Cam Newton would probably join his old coach Ron Rivera with the Washington Redskins but, if he didn't, he still had a career in fashion design. The pall quilt you see was hand stitched by mom, and some of her beautiful artwork is displayed today for you to enjoy. Needless to say, she led a full and colorful life. There weren't many dull moments in the Marshburn household.

She was an organ donor and donated her eyes and skin tissue to help others. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mount Vernon Baptist Church, Senior Adult Programs, 7600 Falls of the Neuse Road, Raleigh NC 27615. She loved her senior friends at church.

The family wishes to especially thank neighbors Mark and Cindy Brown, and their daughters Enya, Carmen and Olivia, who kept an eye on our mom, worked in her yard and fed her delicious homemade meals and treats. She always enjoyed visits from the girls. Thank you for loving our mom and coming out today. We are honored by your presence and appreciate each one of you. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. Matthew 5:16

God is good y'all.
