Obituary of Levora Lytle

Levora Bivens Lytle was born on July 3, 1931, the 9th child of Isom and Della Gillespie Bivens of Marshville, NC. The Lord saw fit to receive her into His presence on February 28, 2013.

She grew up in Marshville, attending the Church of God, under the leadership of Pastor Elijah Lytle.

In 1950, Levora left NC, moving to Baltimore, MD. Here she worked as the head cook at Johns Hopkins University. Desiring more for herself, Levora finished her secondary education at Frederick Douglas High School, then moved on to business school. She was able to gain employment with the MD State Dept. of EducationDivision of Vocational Rehabilitation. Levora remained here until retiring after 30 years of service.

In 1966, Levora surrendered her life to the Lordship of Jesus Christ and joined the Monroe St. Church of God. While content to remain behind the scenes, Levora was a faithful and tireless servant. She served the congregation as an usher, a choir member, a Sunday School teacher, scout leader, VBS arts & crafts director, a member of women's ministry, head of the kitchen committee, and church clerk. A fixture for over 30 years on Zion's Hill, Levora also served the church's national association as an usher and cooked for the annual youth camp.

Often noted for a warm smile and generous spirit, this life of service will be remembered by many. Those especially touched are her loving husband, Elvin; two daughters, Theresa and Bonita; son-in-law, Mark; grandchildren Bethany (husband Duane) Joshua, Mariah, and Micah Joe; great-grandsons Mason and Micah, along with several nieces and nephews. Levora is also survived by a sister, Azie Lee Oglesby.

For a day in Your courts is better than a thousand. I'd rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness. ~Psalm 84:10
