Luby Ray Sawyer April 2, 1936 – March 29, 2024 US Veteran (Korean War) Luby Ray Sawyer, 87, Went to be with his Lord and Savior on Good Friday, March 29, 2024. Luby was born on April 2, 1936 in Benson North Carolina to James "Willie" and Mary Sawyer. Luby worked at Dorthea Dix Hospital for 30 years. Luby's work ethic garnered him an employee of the year nomination in 1985. After his retirement in 1987, Luby decided to embark on a second career and worked another 15 years at the Food Lion on Timber Drive in Garner NC.  He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Cherry Allen Sawyer. Luby is survived by his son, Danny Sawyer (Nancy) of Garner, grandson, Steven Sawyer (Emily) of Garner, granddaughter Stacey Goerger (Sam) of Garner, 6 great grandchildren, several special nephews and nieces, lots of friends, and a very special friend, Pearline Evans of Raleigh. Luby was a humble, kind, and loving father, grandfather, and friend to many. He was a man of few words, but much wisdom. Luby will be remembered for many things, but above all will be his intense love for his family.  Luby was a devout member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Raleigh, where he attended for over 50 years. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, April 3rd, 2024 at Fellowship Baptist Church in Raleigh NC. Family will receive friends from 12:00 – 1:00. Burial will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Fellowship Baptist Church, 5029 Old Stage Rd., Raleigh NC 27620
