Our beloved mother, Lula Johnson Lewis, 83, of Garner, passed Wednesday, July 19, 2023, under the care of Cardinal Hospice at Harnett Woods Nursing home. She was born April 9, 1940 in Lenoir County, daughter of the late Robert E. Lee Johnson and Laura West Johnson.

Mom earned a B.S. degree in teaching from UNC Chapel Hill and a Master's Degree from Campbell University. She worked as a tax preparer for over 30 years including having her own tax business. Mom loved serving and teaching others. She taught for 30 years including the Battle of the Books competition. As a 4-H leader for 10 years, she served and taught young people. She loved doing activities with her family, playing piano, reading, and cheering for the UNC Tarheels. Baking was a hobby where she served others, especially during the holidays and a business where she sold cakes at the State Fair.

She was married to our Dad, Jake for 57 years until he passed in 2017. She is survived by son J.B. Lewis, Jr. and wife Wanda of Clayton, daughter Patricia Lewis Apsitis and husband Erick of West Columbia, S.C., daughter Elsie Lewis Brantley and husband Mike of Benson, four grandchildren, Crystal Turner and husband Jason Turner, Joshua Apsitis and wife Taylor Apsitis, Christy Brantley, Christopher Brantley and
wife Sarah Brantley, four great grandchildren, Tyler Turner, Carter Edwards, Carter Turner, Nena Apsitis and many nieces, nephews and cousins, She is also survived by sister Laura Little and husband Marvin of Greenville, NC and brother Louie Johnson and wife Terri Johnson of Stantonsburg, NC and sister in law Emmie Johnson of Kinston, NC.

A funeral service will be held Friday July 21, 2023, at 1pm at the Montlawn Funeral Home chapel. Entombment will follow in Montlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from Friday, July 21, 2023 11:30 am to 1 pm at Montlawn Funeral Home chapel.
