Madie Bailey Pittman, 100, passed away peacefully on February 20, 2016 at home where she lived with her daughter. Born on August 25, 1915 in Auburn, NC she was the daughter of Ed and Ava Bailey.
She was a loving and devoted wife of her late husband Harry Pittman, Sr. They were members of Milner Memorial Presbyterian Church. Madie worked for many years as a secretary for Durham Life insurance Company. She is also remembered as an excellent cook and seamstress with a flair for style.
Madie's contagious smile and remarkable beauty enveloped everyone around her. She was dearly loved by her daughter, Andrea Pittman Gardner; son Harry Pittman and wife Lynda; grandchildren, Linwood Johnson and wife Kimberly, Phillip Johnson and wife Teresa, Greg Pittman and wife Martina, Mike Pittman and wife Kim; great-grandchilden, Woody Johnson, Heather Johnson, Vinny Pittman, Patrick Pittman and Lauren Pittman.
She was preceded in death by her two brothers, Edwin and Linard and three sisters, Nettie, Margie and Settie.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday at Montlawn Funeral home Chapel. Entombment will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:30 - 2:00 pm prior to the service.
